    Causes

    • The exact cause is not known. Most cases arise sporadically. It is associated with the following inherited conditions:
    • Li-Fraumeni syndrome
    • Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome
    • Neurofibromatosis type 1
    • Costello syndrome
    • Noonan syndrome
    • It is also associated with certain other chromosomal abnormalities and genetic mutations.
    • The risk factors include:
    • Family history of cancer
    • Genetic disorders

    Symptoms

    Symptoms depend on the location of the tumor and may include:

    • Presence of a painless mass
    • Hematuria
    • Abdominal pain
    • Bleeding in the nose, throat, vagina or rectum (if the tumor is present around any of these organs)
    • Tingling, numbness and pain in case of nerve compression

    Complications

    If untreated for a prolonged period it may lead to

    • Bladder damage
    • Infertility caused by chemotherapeutic agents
    • Secondary cancer may occur after treatment
